Conservation of the Pilanesberg area started in the early 1980s and today most of South Africa’s game can be found right here! It’s easy to spot giraffe, kudu, zebra, impala, antelope and elephant. If you’re lucky you’ll see the lion, leopard or caracal. There are also 360 species of birds. Visitors can enjoy game drives and walking safaris to see for themselves why Pilanesberg National Park is the most popular park in South Africa!
The park is named after Chief Pilane of the Bakgatla tribe in Bophuthatswana. Today, members of the Bakgatla tribe take visitors on a village tour to learn more about the history of their people. Guests at Pilanesberg can also submerse themselves in a traditional African music experience. You can learn how to play the djembe drum, or see a marimba band and traditional dance performance.
